When the temperature drops, it is tempting to stay inside until spring. But winter is one of the best seasons to get outdoors. Skiing, snowshoeing, skating or snow tubing: winter sports turn the cold months into something to look forward to. Here are five good reasons to grab your coat and go.
1. You move more, without noticing it
Winter sports keep you active at a time of year when most of us slow down. Walking in the snow, keeping your balance and climbing back up a hill all work your legs, your core and your heart. On a tubing hill, every ride ends with a walk back to the top, and after a couple of hours you will feel it. The best part is that it never feels like a workout: you are just having fun.
2. Fresh air and daylight lift your mood
Short days and long evenings indoors can leave you feeling flat. Spending time outside in the daylight, breathing cold mountain air and laughing on the way down a slope is a simple way to recharge. Many people come home from a day in the snow tired, relaxed and in a much better mood than when they left.
3. Quality time with family and friends
A day in the snow is time spent together, away from screens and daily routines. Racing each other down the hill, cheering for the kids and sharing a hot drink afterwards are the kind of moments people remember for years. Winter sports are also a great way to meet people: groups, birthdays and team outings are always more fun on the snow.
4. There is something for every age and level
Not every winter sport needs lessons, expensive gear or years of practice. Snow tubing is the easiest way to start: you sit in the tube and let gravity do the work. There is nothing to learn, so beginners, kids and grandparents can all ride on the same day. At Wasatch Parc, riders only need to be at least 42” tall, and our banked turns add the thrill for those who want it.
5. You make the most of winter and the mountains
Winter sports are a reason to explore places you might never see otherwise. Snowy forests, mountain views and crisp blue-sky days are at their most beautiful in winter. Ogden Valley is a perfect example: a short drive from Ogden takes you to Eden and Nordic Valley, surrounded by the Wasatch Mountains.
Before you go
- Dress in warm layers, with waterproof gloves, a hat and boots.
- Wear a helmet, especially for kids: Wasatch Parc doesn’t provide them, but they are strongly advised.
- Download and sign the release of liability before you come to save time.
